| The sun shone, 10,000 happy clubbers
danced, and some of the most famous DJs in the world smiled
and joined in the celebrations as Ireland’s Planet Love
festival broke new records of atmosphere and impact for this
it’s 6th annual outing.
Strains of trance, techno, hard house
and old skool vibes brought the tranquil surrounds of Shane’s
Castle, County Antrim, to life on Saturday 13th September
under three big canvasses and the Cool FM/Homegrown Outdoor
Stage.
It was the perfect dance music
festival as - despite the forecast - the weather was of high
summer quality remaining in the mid 20s Celsius all afternoon,
with only a slight dip in temperatures in the evening, leading
to a balmy, late summer night.
Dave Angel, Paul Van Dyk and Mauro
Picotto were the most anticipated DJ sets of the day, and
exceeded all expectations, while unique to Planet Love, The
Rendezvous arena with its happy hardcore moments and hi energy
old skool vibe, was often so full that a queue formed outside!
As one person came out, one went in, and so it went on all day
- particularly during the sets of local DJ Tizer, the
legendary Charly Lownoise and Pablo Gargano.
The Love Arena was the main attraction
of the day and the biggest crowd was attracted by Radio One DJ
Judge Jules. Jules travelled by private jet to the festival,
accompanied by Eddie Halliwell, Eddie’s brother Simon, and
Jules’ Northern Irish pal and producer/DJ Simon
Patterson.
On the outdoor stage blistering
performances were given by the local contingent, especially
Gleave Dobbin, and Love to be a DJ winner Terry
Keeley.
"It was the best ever," said proud
promoter Eddie Wray. "The crowd and the atmosphere from start
to finish was fabulous. Even at 1.45am, people were still
outside having a ball. It was fabulous to see. Roll on
2004."
And for anyone who missed the biggest
party of the year, 2FM were broadcasting live from the site
all day on Saturday, while also recording a selection of top
DJ sets to be broadcast over the next few months.
And so, a new countdown begins. The
legacy of this hugely celebrated dance music festival will
continue.
Plans are already afoot for 2004 - stay
tuned! |
