Planet Love WKD 06 - What a show!
The eighth annual Planet Love WKD festival broke all records for atmosphere and sheer dance music magic on September 9th as music lovers travelled from across Ireland and the UK to see some of the world’s biggest dance acts perform at Shane’s Castle, County Antrim.

Over 70 artistes performed on eight stages between 2pm and 2am at the historic site while warm temperatures and unbroken sunshine enhanced the easy al fresco festival vibe.

The Love/Radio 1 arena was where the main action of the day took place with BBC Radio 1 broadcasting live across the UK from 7pm right through until 3am.

Judge Jules, DJ Fergie, US DJ Christopher Lawrence, Dave Pearce, Italian Mauro Picotto and of course the official world number 1 DJ Paul Van Dyk all took part in the broadcast. Furthermore, 16-year-old Belfast lad Jordan X was afforded a prestigious peak time half hour DJ set as part of DJ Fergie’s Radio 1 broadcast.

Dance music legends and recent chart toppers Chicane performed their first ever fully live set in Ireland in front of a packed Love arena, while the Happy Mondays DJs entertained VIPs with an eclectic and electric DJ set.

Eddie Halliwell’s headlining DJ set in his own Goodgreef/Fire it Up saw the arena filled to capacity, while the ever popular old skool-style Rendezvous arena enjoyed a rare classics set from German DJ Misjah, aka. Dyewitness.

Among the many characters roaming the festival grounds on the day were giant grass-eating hens, doctors and nurses, bumble bees, cowboys and Indians, and stilt-walking, whiskey-drinking nuns!

"The event exceeded our expectations in every way," said promoter Eddie Wray. "The crowd behaviour was fantastic and atmosphere-wise it was the best event I’ve ever seen. BBC Radio 1’s presence provided that special magic that only a live radio broadcast can. Importantly also, we fulfilled our own promise of delivering a spectacular show and festival experience. Planet Love moved to a new level on Saturday and we’re very proud."

Judith Robinson, Brand Executive with WKD (partner of Planet Love) said, "The festival was amazing; a great time was had by all. The WKD Bus proved a brilliant added attraction while the giveaways and promotional girls also proved very popular! We were impressed indeed by the festival this year and we’re glad everyone had a great time. Now, we’re really looking forward to the Winter Party."

The Planet Love WKD Winter Party is the next big Planet Love instalment and it will take place on Boxing Night 06 in Belfast’s King’s Hall.
