Thousands
of Northern Irish clubbers were treated to an audio
and visual spectacular on Easter Monday as Planet
Love WKD Spring paid a second visit to Belfast’s
King’s Hall.
Some of the world’s best DJs were performing
at the eight hour event including Ferry Corsten,
Radio One’s Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell and
Japanese DJ Yoji Biomehanika.
Planet Love, run by Lisburn company PLM Promotions,
is Northern Ireland’s biggest clubbing brand.
The next event is their famous summer festival which
takes place at Shane’s Castle in Antrim on
Saturday September 9th. This year’s event
will be supported for the first time by BBC Radio
One. And
it was party central right from the 6.30pm kick
off as Larne DJ Gleave Dobbin stepped up to greet
the first few hundred clubbers who had braved
the chilly spring air from earlier in the day
to make sure they were first through the doors. The
Tidy Boys - Amadeuz Mozart and Andy Pickles -
couldn’t resist a good blast of their legendary
tough sound for what was an uncharacteristically
early set at 7.30pm. It was a baptism of fire
for the crowd and an effective aperitif for the
night ahead. With
the subtle cool for which he is renown, Belgian
DJ MIKE Push transferred the vibe to his indigenous
trance mode without sacrificing any of the energy
generated by the Tidy Boys. He went on to deliver
one of the finest sets of the night while simultaneously
paving the way for the first of the big stars
of the Planet Love WKD Spring: Radio One DJ and
the universally popular Judge Jules. The Judge
was on form and clearly impressed by the scene
before him – an endless sea of heads and
upheld hands!
The
stage was ablaze for the arrival of headliner
Ferry Corsten. The event’s fire themed stage
show was based on Corsten’s latest new tune
‘Fire’. Although it was his other
production ‘Punk’ which had the King’s
Hall throng singing like the larks they have famously
become! Corsten turned down the music to enjoy
the crowd’s enthusiastic rendition of the
infectious synth line of his epic tune.Halliwell
followed Corsten and the technical wizard lived
up to his reputation - tweaking and cutting and
mixing on a specially requested, high specification
selection of turntables, CDJs, effects equipment
and mixers. At
2am the Japanese DJing enigma that is Yoji Biomehanika
stepped up for the last hour of the night - and
what an end to an fabulous show! Yoji issues an
assault on the senses, eclipsing all who go before
him. Visually outlandish with white hair as long
in parts as it is short, milky white skin, dressed
head to toe in leather and complete with crazy
Versace shades, Yoji backs up the bizarre look
with a musical style akin to Scot Project and
showmanship that sees him spend as much time in
front of the decks as he does behind them! The
combined effect was intoxicating and explosive.
If he hadn’t already done so at the Planet
Love festival last year, Yoji Biomehanika fostered
a very special bond with Northern Ireland on Easter
Monday.
PLM Promotions would like to say a huge THANK
YOU to everyone who went along to Planet Love
WKD Spring.
