Listen
carefully to the backing track of the Planet
Love advert currently airing Cool FM. It was
created in just two hours by Belfast DJ Mog!
“We were in the middle of town (Belfast) when
Judith phoned us asking if we could create
something within 2 hours,” says Mog. “So,
we borrowed a laptop from shop in Belfast,
ran about the record shops to get some inspiration,
then we had to go to an internet café to download
some software, then borrow an office, then
set about making a track without speakers,
without a keyboard, or anything else!”. But
it worked.
Within two hours Mog had delivered the 30
second backing track which now airs alongside
Chicane’ ‘Stoned in Love’
track. “Without a keyboard we basically
had to draw the pattern of the riff,”
said Mog. “Worse still, the other producer
– who has the true musical ear between
us – had just had corrective surgery
on his eyes, so he couldn’t see! It
was like ‘hear no evil, see no evil’
but we got it done.”
22 year-old Mog’s discography is already
impressive reading. Along with accomplished
local producer Mickey Modelle, Mog records
under a selection of monikers including Funckaholicz,
The Columbians and Triple M, and they have
tunes featured regularly on Judge Jules’
show, as well as one on Pete Tong’s
Essential Selection.
The most well known so far is the white label
‘Tribal Satisfaction’ produced
by Mog and Modelle. He also works with
Marty Fennell and together from their ‘Hairy
Lemons’ studio in Belfast, they have
created a remix which is about to get signed
by a major UK label. “It’s all
under wraps at the moment so I can’t
talk about it.”
Furthermore, Space (Ibiza) resident DJ Javi
Cannus has taken a shine to Mog’s own
tune produced under the pseudonym 'Tatoe and
Tease' called '32 steps' As well as giving
it spins in the Ibizan superclub, Cannus has
also now asked to remix it!
Mog has a plethora of gigs lined up in Majorca
this summer too, and we can exclusively announce
that he will DJ in the main Love/Radio One
arena at Planet Love on September 9th. You
can also catch him at his Clubland residency
in Cookstown through the summer.
“Despite what’s
happening elsewhere,” he says, “I
will always stay true to the home crowd. I
think you have to.”
